Hilbert College wrapped up a 6-0 season against AMCC oponents with a 13-3 win over Alfred State College in the finals of the inaugural conference men's lacrosse showcase tournament.
The Hawks jumped out to a 6-0 lead any never looked back. They had a 7-2 lead at the half and jumped to a 10-3 advantage after three quarters. That was as close as the Pioneers would get.
Marc O'Neill had a hat trick for Hilbert (10-6 overall). The Hawks got two goals each from Austin Laine, Matthew Simon and Nathaniel Hyman, with single tallies from Edward Mathias, Codie Thomas and Tyler Nicoloff. Adam Zawadzki stopped 11 shots, while Nicoloff led the Hawks with six ground balls.
Landon Drum, Joe Johnson, and Teddy Alvarado all scored once for Alfred State (8-10 overall) while Ryan Amidon made 14 saves in net. Tanner Morrow led the Pioneers with seven ground balls.
Hilbert outshot the Pioneers 46 to 23 in the contest and forced the blue & gold into 28 turnovers. Both teams were 2 for 10 with the extra man in the contest.
The Hawks were the top seed in the showcase and advanced to the finals with a 27-1 win over #4 Medaille College on Friday. The #2 seeded Pioneers made it to the title game with a 16-5 victory over #3 Franciscan University.
