The Pitt-Bradford men’s basketball team is sponsoring its annual Elf Fund Toy Drive beginning on Saturday, December 13. The event marks the third year in a row the men will take part in helping less fortunate children this holiday season.
The Elf Fund started in 1983 when the city of Bradford was hard hit by the economic recession which gripped most of the country. People were out of work, jobs were scarce and some residents were having trouble meeting basic needs. The goal by David Antill, the captain for the Salvation Army in Bradford at the time, was to provide families with gifts on Christmas morning.
This Saturday, the men’s team hosts Pitt-Greensburg at the KOA Arena for an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference showdown. All fans are asked to bring toys to donate to this great cause.
Anyone bringing a toy to the game also will receive free admission. The men will do the same for the women’s game on Monday, December 15, at 6 p.m., and will conclude on Wednesday, December 17, for their game versus Wooster at 5 p.m.
The Pitt-Greensburg contest will also mark the game this year that the men’s program hosts the Bradford Youth Basketball League. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. versus the Bobcats.
