MEDAILLE ATHLETICS SPREADS HOLIDAY CHEER

Student-athletes and members of the Medaille Maverick athletic family decided to spread some holiday cheer this week; delivering cookies to the nurses, house keepers, and maintenance staff at the Women's & Children's Hospital of Buffalo on Tuesday morning.
"We chose to give cookies to the staff at Women's & Children's Hospital of Buffalo because of the work they do, the service they do, and they go unnoticed," said Pastor Emery, Chaplain of Campus Ministry at Medaille College. "They are unsung heroes and we wanted to thank them for what they do for all of us. They put in 12 hour shifts, four days a week so we wanted to do something special for them."
Pastor Emery, and his wife Pat Emery, made 1,000 cut-out cookies for student-athletes and other members of the Medaille athletic family to frost for the joyous occasion.
"Just to sit there and listen to them tell their stories, to hear them laugh about classes it was fun to listen to," said Pastor Emery about the students coming together for such a great cause. "One of the things I liked [Monday] night was, when I was here in the 1980's, we had a thing called the Medaille community that we talked about all the time. [Monday] night I saw that. They were like brothers and sisters. It was just a great sense of community, and I think Dr. Macur's bringing that back which is great."
After putting the finishing touches on the 1,000 cookies with frosting and sprinkles on Monday evening, students and Medaille staff joined Pastor Emery in handing out plates of holiday cheer to the hard working staff at Women's & Children's Hospital.
"It was great," said Pastor Emery about the reaction from the nurses and staff at Women's & Children's Hospital. "They were all asking 'what is this for'? And then one nurses said 'Oh, I remember these last year', so that was the fun part."
This is the second year that student-athletes and members of the athletic department have delivered cookies to the workers over at Women's & Children's Hospital of Buffalo with Pastor Emery. Next year they hope to surpass this year's total and make even more cookies to hand out.
"We made 1,000 this year," said Pastor Emery. "Next year we want to do more, we want to do 1,500."
