On Thursday, members of the Pitt-Greensburg baseball team and coaching staff spent the day helping out the Westmoreland Food Bank in downtown Greensburg.
Players and coaches teamed up with other volunteers at the Westmoreland Community Action Center to assist in providing food to those less fortunate this holiday season.
The team spent the early part of the morning unloading the truck then sorting and organizing all of the food, which were donated items from people in Westmoreland County. The rest of the day was spent meeting with members and families of the community and loading their vehicles with the groceries. In some instances, the baseball players even walked the groceries to nearby homes for the families.
"We feel grateful to have the opportunity to come out and not only spend some time with people in our community, but also help make their holiday season a little better this year. The people at the Westmoreland Community Action Center were truly great people and we definitely look forward to continuing this relationship to help our neighbors here in Greensburg", said Head Baseball Coach Anthony Williams.
The Bobcats will now break for the winter recess, with the spring term beginning on January 6th.
Opening day for UPG Baseball is set for February 26, 2016 against Farmingdale State in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
