AMCC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR APRIL 4-10
The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's volleyball, baseball, tennis, and women's softball for the period running from April 4-10, 2022.

Baseball (Player): Alfred State INF Elijah Barinas was a dominant force in the Pioneers' double AMCC sweep last week to extend their win streak to 10 and remain undefeated in conference play. In four games, Barinas went 9-for-10 at the plate, recorded a .900 batting average, 1.400 slugging percentage, seven RBIs, five runs, two triples, one double and stole five bases. In their sweep over Medaille, he went a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate. In their 11-5 win in game one he had two RBIs and scored one run. In game two, they won 12-2 and he contributed three RBIs, one run and one triple. Against Penn St.-Altoona, Barinas was a combined 3-for-4 at the plate. In their 4-0 shutout in game one, he had one run and one triple. In their 13-3 win in game two he was 1-for-1 at the plate and recorded two RBIs and two runs.
Baseball (Pitcher): Hilbert FR Griffin McAndrews played a vital role this week for the Hawks out of the bullpen, picking up both a win and save. On Tuesday, he tossed 1.2 scoreless innings of relief to pickup the win at Pitt-Bradford. Then on Saturday, McAndrews came in with the Hawks leading La Roche 4-2 and the bases loaded and got a big strikeout to get out of the jam. He proceeded to throw the final 10 outs of the game, striking out five batters and did not allow a single run to earn his second save of the season. The right-hander finished the week with a .167 batting average against after allowing just three hits over two appearances. McAndrews is now 1-0 with a pair of saves over 8.0 innings pitched in conference play and has yet to allow a run.
Softball (Player): Medaille OF/C Shay Sommer finished the week with a .345 batting average, a .387 on base percentage, and a .621 slugging percentage as the Mavs went 5-3 on the week. She went 10-for-29 with three doubles, one triple, and one homerun. She also added 10 RBIs, seven runs scored, and one stolen base. Her best game of the week was against La Roche where she batted 1.000 going 4-for-4 with two doubles, five RBIs, and two runs scored. She also added 10 putouts on 11 total chances in right field with a .909 fielding percentage.
Softball (Pitcher): Pitt-Bradford SO Ashley Stein threw her first career complete-game shutout in the Panthers' 2-0 win over Medaille last week. Stein limited the Mavericks to just six hits without walking a batter. She threw just 80 pitches in the game, with 53 of them for strikes.
