AMCC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR JANUARY 9-15, 2023
The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's & women's basketball, swimming and diving, and men's wrestling for the period running from January 9-15, 2023.

Women's Swimming: Pitt-Bradford FR Isabella Cercone picked up 27 individual points as the Panthers fell to Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday, as she recorded wins in three individual races, while also contributing to a second place relay finish. Cercone easily won both breaststroke events, taking the 100 with a time of 1:15.13, and the 200 in 2:44.55. She also won a tight 100-yard freestyle, winning in 27.56 by .14 seconds. Cercone also swam the anchor leg in the Panthers 200-yard freestyle relay, posting a split of 27 seconds flat.
Men's Swimming: Pitt-Bradford FR Conan Young picked up three individual victories and had the top split for the winning 200 freestyle relay on Saturday as the Panthers were edged by Roberts Wesleyan in a Dual meet. Young began his day by dominating the 200-free, finishing in 1:51.44, nearly 13 seconds ahead of the next competitor. He followed that up with a win in the 200-yard butterfly and closed individual competition by winning the 500 in 5:02.41. He also posted a 24.33 second split in the 200 fesstyle relay that win by 12 seconds.
Men's Diving: Alfred State FR Conor Compton won both the 1m (286.80) and the 3m diving competitions (336.0) against Nazareth on Saturday.
Women's Basketball: PS-Altoona G Sarah Huston had a big week for the Lions in two more AMCC wins, helping the team improve to 4-0 in the conference this season. In Wednesday night's victory over Pitt-Greensburg, the senior guard had a game-high 22 points and team-high 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season, while also finishing with five assists and three steals. In Saturday's win against Pitt-Bradford, Huston recorded her first collegiate triple-double, scoring 19 points, grabbing a career-high 15 rebounds, and matching her career-high in assists with 10. On the week, she averaged 20.5 points per game, 13.0 rebounds per game, 7.5 assists per game, and 2.5 steals per game.
Men's Basketball: La Roche G Devon Darrell scored a season-high in points against Mount Aloysius, as he racked up 33 points on 12-for-15 shooting from the field. He followed that up at home on Saturday when he netted 30 points against Alfred State, giving him an overall total this past week of 63 points scored in two games. The senior shot 68.8% from field goal range overall, and on Saturday went 4-for-5 from long range. He averaged 31.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.0 steals on the week as the Redhawks went 2-0 to stay undefeated (4-0) in conference play.
Wrestling: Alfred State FR Dom Vinci went 3-0 in dual meet action, including a major decision win and two decision wins, while competing in two different weight classes (141 and 149lb) for the Pioneers.
Men's Volleyball: Thiel OH Zac Smith led the Tomcats to a 1-1 weekend at the Nazareth Tri-Match with 21 kills and 21 digs. Offensively, Smith tallied 2.63 kills per set with a .348 hitting percentage on the week. In a five-set win over Medaille, Smith led all players with 15 kills and 17 digs while boasting a .464 hitting percentage. In Thiel's three-set loss to Nazareth, Smith led the Tomcats with six kills with a .167 hitting percentage.
