AMCC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR JANUARY 16-22, 2023
The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's & women's basketball, swimming and diving, and men's wrestling and volleyball for the period running from January 16-22, 2023.
Men's Basketball: Pitt-Bradford F Nathan Schneider had a huge week for Pitt-Bradford as the Panthers picked up a pair of AMCC victories. He averaged 28.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 3.5 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game. Schneider shot 55.9% from the field on the week, including 44.4 from three, and added 14-of-17 from the line. He scored 31 with eight rebounds (three offensive) in the three-point win over Pitt-Greensburg, playing all 40 minutes. At Alfred State, Schneider scored 25 while recording nine rebounds, seven assists, and four steals.
Women's Basketball: Pitt-Greensburg G Sidney McCully averaged 25 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 2.5 assists in the Bobcats two conference games against La Roche and Pitt-Bradford. McCully played an average of 37 minutes in those games and was the Bobcats primary ball handler. McCully posted a double-double against Pitt-Bradford, as she poured in 27 points, including six three-pointers, and grabbed 12 rebounds, while also adding four assists. She then recorded 23 points and and seven rebounds against La Roche.
Men's Volleyball (Offensive): Hiram MB Kyle Martini led the team in kills in each of its three games at the Hiram Invitational, including 15 kills against both Kentucky State and Adrian. For the week, Martini racked up 44 kills, 12 digs, five blocks and recorded a .306 hitting percentage. Martini was named to the Hiram Invitational All-Tournament team following the event.
Men's Volleyball (Defensive): Hilbert L Stephen Houghton led the Hawks defense with 21 digs while adding 27 assists acting as the libero.
Women's Swimming: Alfred State FR Anna Ivery competed in four events and earned four first place finishes against Hartwick College on Saturday. She was a key compnent in the slim 150-125 win for the Pioneers. Ivery earned first place finishes in the 200 yard medley relay, the 100 yard backstroke, the 50 yard freestyle, and the 100 yard freestyle.
Men's Swimming: Alfred State SO Kellen Fletcher recorded three wins and a second place finish for the Pioneers. He was an important piece of two relay event victories, as the Pioneers prevailed in the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay. He earned a first place finish in the 100 fly and a second place finish in the 200 fly. Fletcher was a key component in the impressive 198-102 win over Hartwick College.
Men's Diving: Alfred State FR Conor Compton was dominant again, with a win in the 1m and 3m diving events. Compton scored 268.15 in the 1m and 305.20 in the 3m dives.
Men's Wrestling: Alfred State SO Sean Malenfant placed first at the NY Collegiate Championship, scoring 23.0 team points. Malenfant went 4-0 with four pinfalls on his way to a state title at 184.
