D'YOUVILLE SAAC PARTNERS WITH PROJECT LINUS, BRING COMFORT TO YOUNG PATIENTS

The D'Youville College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, in cooperation with the Student Association Athletics Committee, recently held a blanket making party in the school's Porter View Room to benefit Project Linus.
Project Linus' mission is to provide a sense of security, warmth, and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or in need with the gift of a handmade blanket.
The event was organized by Katelyn Buck, a member of the women's cross-country team, and baseball player Jeff Spors.
Katelyn and Jeff first became involved with Project Linus after participating in a similar even hosted by the D'Youville Campus Ministry in the fall semester and wanted to share that cause with fellow members of the Spartan athletic community.
The event was open to the entire D'Youville community and student-athletes from the college's 14 varsity intercollegiate teams made up the bulk of those participating. Also in attendance tonight was the D'Youville Pre-Pharmacy program and Resience Life. The goal to construct 50 blankets was enthusiastically reached.
"Tonight's great turnout speaks volumes about how our student-athletes are a caring and compassionate group," said Assistant Athletic Director and SAAC advisor Ona Halladay. "Our thanks to Katelyn and Jeff for taking the lead on this event and I look forward to doing more community service initiatives with our Spartans players, coaches, and friends throughout the college."
