Former Pitt-Bradford pitcher Aaron Cressley has been selected to the Northwest League’s All-Star game for the 2014 season on Tuesday, August 5.
Former Pitt Bradford pitcher Aaron Cressley has been selected to the Northwest League’s All-Star game for the 2014 season on Tuesday, August 5.
Cressley is currently a member of the Eugene Emeralds, a Class A Short-Season team based out of Eugene, Oregon. After being drafted in the 26th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the San Diego Padres, Cressley immediately reported to the Emeralds.
The right-hander has made 11 appearances and tossed 18.2 innings on the hill so far this season. He has surrendered 12 hits and given up two runs, only one earned, while collecting 13 strikeouts. He currently ranks second on the Emeralds’ roster with a 0.48 ERA. Opponents are batting just .185 against the rookie.
“It’s an unreal feeling,” said Cressley. “I have worked so hard all year for it and I finally got it. Without the help of my teammates and coaches, I would not be here. It’s a team award; I am just one of six that get to enjoy it.”
Cressley wrapped up his Pitt-Bradford career in the spring of 2014 after his junior year. In three years on the mound for the Panthers, he pitched 139.2 innings and finished with a 13-9 record. He collected a 2.90 ERA and fanned an eye-popping 163 batters at the plate. For his career, opponents batted .235 against him.
