The honors for the Alfred State College baseball duo Colin Johnson and Lucas Cornell continue to roll in. Both were key in the Pioneers winning five of six games last week.
Johnson, the AMCC Offensive Player of the Week, was also just named the ECAC North Offensive Player of the Week and has also been named the catcher for the D3baseball.com Team of the Week. Johnson was 10 for 16 this past week in five games, collecting five extra base hits and nine RBI. He had a huge Easter Sunday in a doubleheader at Pitt Greensburg. On the day he was 5-for-6 with two home runs and six RBI. Both of his homers and five of his RBI came in the 5-3 second game victory.
Cornell, the AMCC Pitcher of the Week, also just picked up ECAC Pitcher of the Week honors. He was 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA in 11.1 innings of work. He threw a complete game shutout at Wells in which he struck out 12 while allowing just three hits. In a conference start vs. Pitt-Greensburg he allowed four hits and two runs in 4.1 innings but did not factor in the decision. On the week, Cornell notched 16 strikeouts.
The Pioneers have now seven of their last nine contest and are 8-13 overall on the season.
