Penn State Altoona aenior first baseman Catcher Cumming is coming off of a big week, after which he took AMCC Player of the Week, D3baseball.com Team of the Week, and NCBWA DIII National Hitter of the Week honors. The senior currently leads the AMCC in home runs (4) while ranking second in slugging percentage (.897) and third in RBI (13) and total bases (26). Sophomore outfielder Jared Ennis is also having a strong season for the Lions, as he ranks fifth in the conference in batting average (.438), sixth in doubles (4), eighth in on-base percentage (.486), and ninth in RBI (10). On the mound, senior right-hander Tyler Manger and sophomore righty Alex Kitko have led the way for the Lions’ rotation, starting four games each and combining for 39 innings pitched. Both pitchers are coming off of their best performances of the season thus far, as each one notched a win in a doubleheader sweep of Medaille on Saturday, April 3.
Penn State Behrend enters the game with a 10-3 overall record and 3-1 conference mark. The Behrend Lions are honoring the seven seniors in between games. Seniors include Caleb Caldwell, Dom Charletta, Tanner Cicchini, Christian Pacifico, Braden Paulinellie, Noah Schneider and Josh Wagner. The seniors have helped the Lions advance to the AMCC Tournament twice and make an appearance in the ECAC Tournament semifinals. Behrend recently split an AMCC doubleheader on Wednesday with Pitt-Bradford on the road. The Lions relied on starting hurler Derrick Shields in a game-one shutout. Behrend posted a 7-0 win behind Shields first complete game and eight strikeouts. Shields only allowed three hits in game one for his third win of the season.
