After hosting their third annual Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament in the Adler Gym, November, the Penn St. Altoona men’s basketball continues to share the fruits of their fundraising effort.
The two-day tournament, which also included the Juniata College, Mount Aloysius College, and Waynesburg University men’s basketball teams, was a success in raising money to benefit the fight against cancer.
A portion of that money was donated to The Greg and Cathy Griffith Family Foundation, which is based in Hollidaysburg and supports pancreatic cancer research. Before the Lions’ final home game of the season last Saturday, the team formally presented Cathy Griffith with a donation check.
“It was amazing to host an event like the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament at Penn State Altoona, and without the hard work of everyone involved, it would not have been possible to make this donation to the Griffith Foundation,” said Penn State Altoona men’s basketball head coach Billy Clapper.
The tournament was originally created when the men's basketball coaches for Penn State Altoona, Juniata College, and Mount Aloysius College came together to produce an event that benefitted cancer awareness and research while promoting the area's Division III men's basketball programs. Last November's tournament was the third edition of the event, with Juniata and Mount Aloysius hosting the first two years.
