Members of the Pitt-Greensburg men’s and women’s
basketball team joined Special Olympics of Pennsylvania (SOPA)
coaches in running a basketball practice for local Special Olympic
athletes on January 15.
After the athletes went through their normal warm-up routine, UPG
players split up into groups and helped the coaches instruct during
four stations – ball-handling, passing, shooting, and
defense. At the conclusion of station work, the SOPA athletes
participated in two scrimmages while the UPG student-athletes
cheered them on. The evening concluded with a 10 minute question
and answer session where SOPA athletes could ask the UPG basketball
players anything about themselves and their seasons.
