AMCC MEN'S BASKETBALL GAME OF THE WEEK - WEEK OF JANUARY 26
The match up of these two AMCC squads always has a little extra spark as they vie for bragging rights in the University of Pittsburgh family.
Men's Basketball Game of the Week: Pitt-Bradford at
Pitt-Greensburg (January 31, 4:00 PM)
The match up of these two AMCC squads always has a little
extra spark as they vie for bragging rights in the University of
Pittsburgh family. Pitt-Greensburg got their shot in early,
defeating Pitt-Bradford on the Panthers' home turf on December 12
by a narrow 95-89 margin.
Pitt-Bradford travels to Greensburg with a 10-7 record, standing at 7-3 in the AMCC. The Panthers, coming off of a 1-1 week, have won six of their last seven games. They are led by junior Eric Matheson, who ranks fourth in the AMCC with 17.1 points per game and second in three-point percentage with 44.2. Senior Keith Burgess, a two-time all-AMCC selection, ranks 12th in the AMCC with 14.2 points per game.
Pitt-Greensburg enters the week with an 8-2 mark in the AMCC, just a game and a half back of Penn State Behrend for the top spot in the conference. Of particular note is that the Bobcats handed the defending champion Behrend Lions their only conference loss this season. UPG is off to one of its best starts in program history, largely in part to their high powered offensive attack. Head Coach Sean Strickland (5th year) has the Bobcat offense rolling, as they enter the week with the top scoring offense in the conference, averaging over 82 points per game and 90 points per game in the AMCC. The Bobcats also hold a league best mark in FG’s made, 3 pointers made, and 3 point FG %. UPG is led by junior guard Jerell Figueora (2nd team All-AMCC 2013-14), who is averaging 15.9 points per game to rank him fifth in the league.
