The AMCC men's basketball game of the week features a showdown of the two Pitt campuses, with Pitt-Greensburg (12-6, 9-2 AMCC) traveling to Pitt-Bradford (6-12, 5-6 AMCC) on Saturday afternoon. Pitt-Greensburg was victorious on their home court earlier this season when they edged the Panthers 79-72.
The Bobcats enter Saturday’s contest, winners of three straight games, and their 9-2 league mark is second-best in the AMCC with seven games remaining. Pitt-Greensburg is led by senior Rocco Contristano, who enters Saturday’s game leading the AMCC in league scoring, averaging 21.5 points per game in 11 conference contests. Contristano also leads the league in free throw percentage and is second in the league in field goal percentage in AMCC games. Senior Marcus Thomas leads the team and the league in rebounds per game with 12.2, while senior Jerell Figueroa’s 4.5 assists per game rank fourth in the AMCC and his 24 steals are second most this season. Pitt-Greensburg, under the direction of sixth year head coach Sean Strickland, are seeking their first regular season title since 2004-2005 and their first tournament championship since the 1999-2000 season.
The Pitt-Bradford men’s basketball team is coming off of a tough loss to Penn State Behrend and is looking to get back on track Saturday afternoon against Pitt-Greensburg. Junior forward Evan Greening leads Pitt-Bradford and the AMCC in overall scoring, averaging a double-double with 19.1 points per game and 10.9 rebounds per game (2nd in the AMCC). Senior guard Eric Matheson follows with 19 points per game and a team-high 5.4 assists per game. Junior guard Manny Welch rounds out the Panthers averaging double figures with 10.8 points per game. Sophomore guard Sahlil Harris has been terrific coming off of the bench this season, averaging nearly eight points per game. Offensively, the Panthers are averaging 75 points per game while giving up 74 points per game in conference play. The Panthers are also giving up just 8.9 offensive rebounds per game, which leads the AMCC.
