The Hilbert College and Pitt-Bradford men's basketball teams enter the AMCC Game of the Week as the last two remaining undefeated teams in conference play, both holding strong at 2-0 against AMCC teams.
Hilbert enters Wednesday’s game riding a two-game conference win streak. With 39 seconds remaining in regulation, the Hawks rallied from a 10-point deficit, forced overtime and earned a seven-point victory over Penn State Altoona in last Saturday’s AMCC Game of the Week. 6’4 junior F Edward Perez leads the Hawks with 15.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, and he, as well as 6-4 senior F Jahmel Demery (11.3 points/8.1 rebounds), are ranked second in the AMCC in offensive rebounds. 6’3 junior G Quran Briggs who drilled the 3-pointer to force OT against Altoona, is second on the team in scoring with 14.8 points while hitting 50% from the field. 6-2 senior G Eric Jackson is coming on strong adding 10.1 points per game plus distributing the ball for assists. Hilbert’s starting point guard, either Justin Poumpey or Kyreese Fisher, will see the floor well and defend the full 94 feet. They both lead the AMCC in assists per game (3.6) and Poumpey leads Hilbert with 10 steals.
Pitt-Bradford enters the game on a four-game winning streak. After a tough opening weekend at Case Western, the Panthers have picked up wins over Hiram, Fredonia, Wells and Mount Aloysius. The Panthers are led by reigning AMCC Player of the Week Jamarion Butler, who in two AMCC games averaged 26.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 5.0 steals per game. For the season, he is averaging 18.4 points and 6.1 rebounds. Senior Gus Napoleon has stepped into a starting role for Pitt-Bradford, scoring 12.7 points per game while shooting 57.7% from the field and 48.1% from three. Coby Farley adds 11.1 points per game of the bench, while athletic wing Jesse Laster is also averaging double figures at 10.0 points per game.
