LA ROCHE MEN DRAW HAMPDEN-SYDNEY IN FIRST ROUND OF NCAA TOURNAMENT
The La Roche University men's basketball team captured its second consecutive AMCC Tournament Championship and third in four seasons, advancing to the NCAA Div. III Men's Basketball Tournament.
The La Roche University men's basketball team captured its second consecutive AMCC Tournament Championship and third in four seasons, advancing to the NCAA Div. III Men's Basketball Tournament. The Redhawks play No. 1 Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 1.
La Roche is led by AMCC first team all-conference selction, junior guard Joe Starzynski. Starzynski averages 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. Freshman guard Bryce Epps and junior guard Michael Brooks picked up third team all-conference honors. Epps scores 12.6 points per game, while adding 2.2 assists and and 1.3 steals per game. Brooks contributes 11.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.
The Hampden-Sydney Tigers have an overall record of 26-2, gaining their AQ as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament Champions. H-SC is making its 16th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers are a unanimous No. 1 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 released Feb. 26, earning all 25 first-place votes and 625 points in this week's poll.
H-SC was chosen as one of sixteen sites hosting competition on Friday and Saturday, March 1-2. Stevens Institute of Technology (NJ) (22-5) will play Farmingdale State (NY) College (26-2) on Friday, March 1, at 4:30 p.m. The nationally-ranked No. 1 Tigers (26-2) will host La Roche University (17-10) on Friday, March 1, at 7 p.m. The two winners of the Friday games will play in the second round on Saturday, March 2, at 7 p.m.—all three games in Fleet Gym at HSC.
Tickets can be purchased online through HomeTown Ticketing. Fans can use their smart phone to gain entry to the event. Tickets are $15 for adults, and $10 for all students and senior citizens.
