Penn State Altoona men’s basketball comes into Wednesday’s road game at Pitt-Greensburg with a 7-2 record in the AMCC, ranking second in the conference standings. The Lions have had success this season thanks to a balanced effort. Offensively, the team ranks second in the AMCC in field goal percentage (47.4), third in field goals made per game (30.0), and fourth in points per game (80.5). Defensively, the Lions are first in the conference in blocks per game (4.4) and second in steals per game (9.3), defensive rebounds per game (26.8), and turnovers forced per game (16.9). Senior forward Dwayne Jones is scoring 17.8 points per game, fourth-best in the AMCC, and freshman guard Kal-El Gentles averages 13.7 points per game, 16th-best in the league. Junior guard Kaden Claar has the fourth-best three-point field goal percentage (44.7) in the AMCC, and sophomore forward Nehemiah Frye ranks fourth in the conference in field goal percentage (58.4).
The Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats are coming into Wednesday’s AMCC Game of the Week winners of eight of the team’s last nine games. Over those nine games, the Bobcats are averaging 83 points per game while giving up just over 74. The Bobcats have been led by sophomore Trent Rozich, who ranks in the top five in the AMCC in rebounds per game (8.1) and field goal percentage (58.5). Rozich was awarded this week’s AMCC Player of the Week after recording a triple-double in a win against Penn State Behrend. Rozich scored 16 points while securing ten rebounds and dishing out ten assists. The Lions will also have to worry about Bobcat sharp-shooter Matthew Marinchak. Matthew leads the team with 47 three-pointers made while shooting over 37 percent from behind the arc.
