PENN ST. ALTOONA IN LEAD AFTER DAY ONE OF AMCC GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
By the end of the first day of the AMCC Golf Championships on Sunday afternoon at Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club, the Penn State Altoona men's golf team had worked its way into first place out of nine teams.

The Lions shot 318 in Sunday's opening round, tying for their fourth-lowest score of the season. Penn State Altoona holds a two-stroke lead over second place Pitt-Bradford and Pitt-Greensburg, who are both tied with 320. La Roche College was in fourth place with 324, and Penn State Behrend was in fifth with 327.
Sophomore Luke Hoffnagle led the Lions on Sunday, placing sixth individually out of 43 golfers with 77 on the par 72 course. Hoffnagle's 77 is his second-lowest score of the season. Freshman Ethan Yohe shot 79 to tie for ninth place.
Pitt-Bradford junior Johnny Fiore and Pitt-Greensburg senior Javon Trout are tied with the individual lead with a score of 74, while La Roche junior Pat McCall and Medaille College senior Chuck Panepinto are tied for third with 75's. Rounding out the top five is Mount Aloysius College freshman Will Hoven who recorded a 76 on day one.
The teams will return to the course tomorrow, Monday, October 8, for the final day of competition to determine the 2018 AMCC Golf Champion. The winner will also receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
