AMCC MEN'S SOCCER GAME OF THE WEEK - FRANCISCAN AT BEHREND
The men's soccer game of the week features two teams with red hot offenses.
Men's Soccer Game of the Week: Franciscan University @ Penn State Behrend
(Saturday, October 3, 1:00 PM)
The men's soccer game of the week features two teams with red hot offenses. Franciscan boasts sophomore standout Leo Herrmann, who currently leads the AMCC and the nation, in both goals and points. Behrend, with several top goal scorers, enters the contest leading the conference in goals scored as a team. This week's featured game is sure to be an entertaining one with plenty of offense expected on both sides.
The Franciscan men’s soccer team is off to one of its best starts in recent history with a 4-4-1 start and a 1-0 start in AMCC play. The Barons have been led by some stellar offensive play by the 2014 AMCC Newcomer of the Year and 2015 AMCC Offensive Pre-Season Player of the Year, sophomore forward Leo Herrmann. Herrmann paces the Barons and league with 31 points (13g, 5a) and is just two goals shy of his goal total from last year. Nationally, Herrmann leads all of Division III in goals per game (1.44), points per game (3.44), total points (31) and is tied for the top spot in total goals (13). With Herrmann’s headline-grabbing performance, it may be easy to overlook the stellar play by senior forward John Imbimbo. Imbimbo is third in the conference with 19 points (8g, 3a) and has been invaluable to the Baron success so far this season.
Penn St. Behrend, the two-time defending AMCC champions, enters Saturday’s game against Franciscan on a five-game winning streak. In their last game, the Lions held conference opponent Hilbert without a shot to capture a 4-0 victory. They look to continue this defensive dominance against the AMCC’s leading goal-scorer Leo Herrmann of Franciscan. Behrend moved into the Great Lakes region Top 10, capturing the 10th spot this week. The Lions are 7-0 all-time against the Barons and lead the conference in goals scored with 27. Junior forward Anthony Crivelli leads Behrend in goals with seven and points with 17. Senior midfielder Christian Harrington is closing in on Crivelli with 14 points on five goals and four assists. Franciscan has scored 25 goals themselves, but the Lions have a huge advantage in goals against. Behrend has only given up nine goals to post a .88 goals-against average.
