The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team concluded their 2021 season with a loss against Rutgers-Newark in the semifinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament, falling by a score of 4-2.
The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team concluded their 2021 season with a loss against Rutgers-Newark in the semifinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament, falling by a score of 4-2.
Rutgers-Newark opened the scoring in the 23rd minute and followed up with their second goal in the 32nd minute. Five minutes later, Behrend's Sean Abraham received a pass from John Ziboro and fired a shot into the upper right to cut the Lion deficit to one. The teams entered halftime with the score sitting 2-1 in favor of the Scarlet Raiders. Behrend put two shots on goal in the first half compared to Rutgers-Newark sending six shots on target. Ten minutes into the second half, Tyler Vandemerwe scored the tying goal with Blake Cooper credited with an assist for the Lions. The Scarlet Raiders regained the advantage via penalty kick and would add their fourth of the contest in the final minute. The Lions were outshot 18-5 in the second half.
Sam York set a career-high for saves in a single game with 12.
