The La Roche University athletic department has announced the hiring of Anthony Russo as the head coach of the men's soccer program.
The La Roche University athletic department has announced the hiring of Anthony Russo as the head coach of the men's soccer program.
Coach Russo has nearly a decade of coaching expereince. He served as an assistant coach with the Redhawks in 2019 and 2020. Prior to joining LRU, he was the head coach of the boy's soccer team at Plum Senior High School for five season from 2015 to 2019. At Plum, Russo led his team to three straight WPIAL playoff appearances with an overall record of 35-31-6. He was named the BIG 5/6 Section III Coach of the Year and the WPSCA AAAA Section III Coach of the Year. Before that, he was an assistant coach at Shaler Area High School for three seasons from 2012 to 2014.
Russo graduated from Point Park University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts & Sciences degree in Sports, Arts & Entertainment Management. During his time at PPU, he played three seasons as a defender/midfielder for the men's soccer team. He also played one season at University of Pittsburgh - Johnstown. Russo started in 70 games throughout his collegiate career.
