Alfred State 3, Pitt-Greensburg 0
The Alfred State men’s soccer team advances to the AMCC Championship after a 3-0 victory over fifth seeded Pitt-Greensburg. The Pioneers move to 13-3-2 on the season.
After a scoreless first half, the Pioneers offense caught fire. Jack Leahy netted the first goal of the game in the 68th minute, off a Jackson Powers pass. Eight minutes later, Alexander Romero found the back of the net off of a corner kick to make it a 2-0 game. In the 80th minute, Nuri Sarbudak got fouled in the box which turned into a penalty kick goal for the 3-0 lead. The Pioneers would hold off the Bobcats the rest of the game to advance to the championship game.
Penn State Behrend 2, Mount Aloysius 1 (OT)
Penn State Behrend senior Johnathan Swann registered the game-winning goal for No. 2 Penn State Behrend in a 2-1 overtime victory over No. 3 Mount Aloysius on Wednesday afternoon. After 45 minutes of play, the teams went into halftime scoreless with five shots and two on goal for each side. The start of the second half was similar to the first with a back-and-forth affair between both teams. Mountie forward Juan Camacho broke the scoreless tie to give Mount Aloysius a 1-0 lead in the 66th minute when Louiz Bez sent a free kick to the foot of Camacho who put the ball into the right corner of the net. Behrend knotted the score at one apiece with a score in the 83rd minute when Blake Cooper sent a shot from about 25 yards outside the box past the Mountie keeper for the equalizer to force overtime. With five minutes remaining in extra time, Behrend's Chris Profaca fired a shot off the crossbar and the ball bounced around the box to Swann. Swann delivered a bicycle kick for the game-winner and his third goal of the season. Swann and Cooper recorded a team-high two shots apiece for the Lions, while Camacho and Irujo led the Mounties each with two shots. Behrend goalkeeper Anthony Scalise tallied his first collegiate playoff win in net, finishing with three saves.
Alfred State and Penn State Behrend will square off in the AMCC championship game on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 2:00 p.m on the campus of Alfred State.
