LA ROCHE, MOUNT ALOYSIUS TO CLASH IN MEN'S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
The AMCC men's soccer championship field is set, as No. 2 La Roche University and No. 4 Mount Aloysius College each earned semifinal victories to advance to Saturday's final match.
#2 La Roche d. #3 Alfred State, 1-0
For the first time in program history, the La Roche men's soccer team will be playing for an AMCC Championship, as the No. 2 Redhawks took down No. 3 Alfred State, 1-0, in a double overtime thriller. The match was a defensive battle as both teams limited quality opportunities over the first 100 minutes of play.
The lone goal scored came 3:42 into the second overtime, when La Roche freshman Abdul Basit-Suleman capitalized on a rebound, off an initial save that came off the foot of Aiden Mukanos-Kramer, lifting La Roche to the victory.
In goal, Redhawk keeper Maddox Anderson earned his seventh clean sheet of the year, making three saves in the match. La Roche finished the game with an 11-5 shot margin and a shot on goal edge of 8-3, with eight different players putting a shot on target.
#4 Mount Aloysius d. #1 Penn State Behrend, 1-0
The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team is heading back to the AMCC championship match after defeating Penn State Behrend, 1-0, on Wednesday afternoon. The Mounties avenged a 3-1 regular-season loss to Behrend with a gritty road victory to punch their ticket to the title match.
Mount Aloysius struck early, as senior Braden Callahan netted the game's lone goal in the sixth minute off an assist from fellow senior Daniel Irujo. The early advantage proved to be enough, as the Mountie defense held firm against a strong Behrend attack. The Mounties limited the Lions to just two shots on goal despite facing 11 total shots and eight corner kicks.
La Roche and Mount Aloysius both advance to the AMCC Championship match, where they will face off on Saturday at the Baierl Athletic Complex in Pittsburgh, PA. The Redhawks will be seeking their first AMCC title in program history, while the Mounties are aiming to capture their first conference crown since going back-to-back in 2021 and 2022.
Kickoff for Saturday's title match is slated for 2:00 p.m.
