BEHREND MEN TAKE COMMANDING LEAD AT SWIM CHAMPIONSHIP

Penn St. Behrend claimed first place finishes in all five swimming events on Thursday to take a commanding 316 point lead at the AMCC Championship Meet on Friday.

The nine-time defending champions were led by senior Mark Patterson, who struck gold in the 500 free, the 200 free relay and the 400 medley relay.  Junior Quinn Fischer won the 50 free while freshman Chase Bietz got first in the 200 IM,  Both were part of the winning 200 free and 400 medley relays.

Alfred State sophonore Austin Miller earned the one meter diving medal with an NCAA regional qualifying score of 440.80.  His performance earned 16 points for the Pioneers, who sit in second  place with 160 points.  Pitt-Bradford occupied third place with 90 points, followed closely by Penn St. Altoona with 85 and SUNY Delhi with 44.

In another notable effort, UPB's Caleb Hansen set a new school record in the 500 free, clocked at 4:49.92.

Competition resumes Friday morning at the Junker Center in Erie, PA.
