The Penn St. Behrend men moved one day closer to their thirteenth consecutive championship with another dominating performance today at the AMCC swimming and diving championships.
The Lions' point total jumped to 593 as the rest of the field settled in behind them. Alfred State College increased their points to 288, followed by Pitt-Bradford (162), Penn St. Altoona (149) and SUNY Delhi (83).
The Lions won gold in the 200 freestyle relay, the 100 butterfly (Matt Karenbauer), the 200 freestyle (Quinn Fischer), the 100 breaststroke (Chase Bietz) and the 100 backstroke (Mark Patterson). Bietz set a new pool record (57.11) while Patterson's time of 50.08 earned him an NCAA B cut time.
Alfred State junior Ethan Dale out-touched out Behrend junior Brady Mattson by 15/100 of a second to win the 400 individual medley
Competition concludes on Saturday with preliminaries at 10am at the Junker Center in Erie, PA and finals at 6pm.
