FRANCISCAN, BEHREND TO FACE OFF IN MEN'S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP
Franciscan University will be aiming for their fourth straight AMCC title when they take on Penn State Behrend in the men's tennis championship on Sunday.
Franciscan University will be aiming for their fourth straight AMCC title and fifth in six years when they take on Penn State Behrend in the men's tennis championship on Sunday. The winner will also earn the right to represent the conference at the NCAA Division III tournament.
The last time these two teams met for the championship was in 2013. They own a combined total of 10 crowns, four for Franciscan and six for Behrend. The top seeded Barons earned a 6-3 regular season decision over the #2 Lions in March.
Franciscan advanced with a 5-x win over #4 seed Pitt-Greensburg, a rematch of the 2015 finals. The Barons got victories from all three doubles teams along with straight set singles wins from #2 Jarek Sulak and #3 John Gallagher to close the match.
Penn St. Behrend handled #3 seed Mount Aloysius College, 5-0. The Mounties made it to the conference tournament for the first time in program history. In addition to winning all three doubles matches, the Lions secured the victory with points from Yanique Apgar (#1) and Mike Russell (#2).
The finals will begin at 11:30am Sunday at Westwood Racquet Club in Erie.
