AMCC MEN'S TENNIS DIVISIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SLATED FOR THIS WEEKEND
The AMCC Men's Tennis Divisional Championship is slated for this weekend, with the winner advancing to the Atlantic East Championship on May 3. Please click here for instructions on how to access the livestream video throughout the tournament.
The semifinal round opens up on Saturday, April 18 with #1 Penn State Behrend taking on #4 Pitt-Greensburg, followed by #2 Penn State Altoona and #3 Mount Aloysius College.
The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team went undefeated in conference action this season, earning the #1 seed and claiming the Regular-Season Championship. Vitaliy Pikalo is 13-2 overall this season, while Luke Vunora is 10-2. Both are undefeated in conference action, going 7-0 and 8-0, respectively.
Penn State Altoona men's tennis enters the AMCC Tournament with a 6-2 record in the conference. Senior Nick Beard has a 12-3 overall record in No. 1 singles, including a 7-1 mark within the AMCC, and he became the Lions' all-time leader in both singles and doubles wins this season. Junior Jackson Newell holds a perfect 8-0 record in the AMCC and is 12-3 overall while splitting his time between the No. 3 and No. 4 singles positions. In doubles, the No. 1 pair of Beard and sophomore Gabriel Lopez lead the Lions in overall doubles wins (8), while the No. 2 tandem of freshman Ivan Bene and junior Wilhelm Grot have the most AMCC doubles wins (5) on the team.
With a 4-4 record in conference play, Mount Aloysius comes in as the #3 seed. Tristen Ruffley and Colin Gable anchored the Mounties at the top of the lineup, combining for a 5-3 record at No. 1 doubles while also finding consistent success in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions, setting the tone with their steady play match in and match out. Cole Taylor and Corey Obeldobel complemented that effort by providing valuable depth in doubles, posting a 5-3 record at the No. 3 spot to help round out a balanced lineup and contribute to the team.
Rounding out the championship field is #4 Pitt-Greensburg with a 1-7 conference record. At #4 singles, Ryan Cole has a record of 1-5 in conference play. The Bobcats have had the most success at #5 singles where Daniel Cipcic has a record of 2-4 in conference play.
