BEHREND MEN WIN UNITED EAST MEN'S TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP
The Penn State Behrend men's track & field team won its first ever United East Outdoor Championship with 296 team points, outscoring eight other teams this weekend.
Behrend's Alex Cotton earned United East Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year, while head coach Greg Cooper was named the United East Men's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year
Cotton won the shot put with a throw of 50-11. He was followed on the podium by Antonio Faraone (47-6 3/4), Max Rohl (46-4 1/4), and Dan Dabrowski (45-2 1/2). Aiden Grieneisen earned a gold medal with a javelin throw of 165-7, Matthew Laslavic (152-1) tallied third place. In the high jump, Samuel Hetrick (6-6 3/4) and Derek Hillhouse (6-2 1/2) went first and second. Odis Florence notched a fifth-place height of 5-8 1/2.
Behrend secured six of the top eight times in the 1500m. Kody Klein was the winner with a time of 4:04.58, followed by third-place finisher Nicolin Pierce, fifth-place finisher Aidan Reinsel, sixth-place finisher Aidan Domencic, seventh-place finisher Peyton Brewer, and eighth-place finisher David Gahagan. Klein was also the champion in the 800m with a time of 1:55.70, while Pierce earned another third-place finish. In the 110m hurdles, Florence (16.41) and Dominic Marino (16.91) placed second and third. Aiden Seeman recorded a second-place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.18. Seeman was followed by Reinsel and Marino in fourth and fifth. Jake Egizio registered a runner-up finish with a time of 51.00 in the 400m dash, while Jake Walden (52.06) finished sixth. Egizio went on to finish third in the 200m dash (22.10). Bennett Kerr delivered a second-place in the 5000m with a time of 16:17.55. Emil George and Joey George placed fourth and seventh in this event. The 4x1 relay team of Hetrick, Egizio, Florence, Marshall Nock claimed a runner-up time of 43.18, while Seeman, Klein, Walden, and Egizio anchored the 4x4 relay finish of third place.
The Hilbert College men's track and field team concluded their first Championship meetwith a seventh place finish in the United East Conference two-day meet hosted by Penn State Behrend. The Hawks recorded 29 points finishing ahead of Penn State Abington and St. Elizabeth in the field of nine team. The Hawks combined their team points in the triple jump (12 points), 100 m dash (6 points), 4x100 relay (5 points), 110 hurdles and 4x400 relay (2 points each) and one point in both the 200 m and the 800 m dashes. Six program records were established this weekend in the discus, long jump, 100 m dash, 200 m dash, 4x100 relay and the 4x400 relay. Zy'Mere Covington was the highest point scorer for the Hawks, finishing in second place in the triple jump with a 12.93 leap, and five points as a fourth place finisher in the 100 m dash. Nazir Mckelley was another multiple-event scorer, grabbing 4 points in the fifth place finish in the triple jump (12.35 m) and two points in his seventh place finish in the 110 m hurdles (18.36). Zai'Mar Covington, Da'Von Cockrell, and Lemario Jonesjoined Zy'Mere Covington in the record-setting 4x100 relay and Jamal Harris Jr., Jason Vullo, Nick Baritot, and Sam Holden sprinted to another Hilbert record in the 4x400 relay.
Cockrell (200m), Zai'Mar Covington, (100m) , and Baritot (800m) each added one point to the team's score.
