The AMCC Men's Volleyball Game of the Week features Hiram College at Saint Vincent College, as both teams sit at 1-0 in AMCC play.
Hiram men’s volleyball has already matched its win total from all of last season, starting 2024 with a 9-8 record and a 1-0 clip in conference matches. The Terriers won five straight matches from Jan 19-27, which included three sweeps. Junior MH/OH Kyle Martini, an All-AMCC First Team selection last season, leads the team with 162 kills on the offensive end and 46 total blocks on the defensive end this season.
Saint Vincent brings an 8-6 overall record, and 1-0 AMCC mark, into Wednesday night’s matchup with Hiram. The Bearcats opened conference play this past weekend, earning a 3-1 victory at Hilbert. Grad student Matt Minkin, the AMCC Preseason Player of the Year, recorded 12 kills, as did sophomore teammate Shawn McSwiggen, while freshman Rocco Marino tallied a career-high five blocks and senior Matt Klasnic a team-best 13 digs. McSwiggen enters tonight’s match ranked fourth in the conference in total kills (194) and kills per set (3.66), while he tops the conference with an average of 0.49 aces per set. Sophomore setter Zach Wyant runs the SVC offense and is ranked third in the AMCC with an average of 8.15 assists per set.
Tonight already marks the third meeting this season between the Bearcats and Terriers, with Hiram having won each of the previous two. However, last season, Saint Vincent swept Hiram in the season series between the two squads. All-time dating back to the 2020 season, Hiram holds the 6-2 advantage in the series between the two teams.
