MEN'S VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT KICKS OFF WEDNESDAY
The AMCC Men's Volleyball Championship Tournament kicks off Wednesday evening with first round matchups. #1 Buffalo State College hosts #4 Penn State Altoona, while #3 Houghton University travels to #2 Penn State Behrend. The winners of each game will square off for the AMCC Championship Saturday on the campus of the highest remaining seed.
Top seeded Buffalo State enters the tournament with a perfect 12-0 record in AMCC play and is looking for their second straight AMCC title. The Bengals are led offensively by junior OH Gavin Wilczewski, who leads the team and ranks second in the conference with 312 total kills and 3.18 kills per set, while also ranking third in the conference with a .314 hitting percentage. Junior MB Kaden Strong tops the league with a .422 hitting percentage, while also ranking T-4th with 0.38 service aces per set and fifth with 0.74 blocks per set. Sophomore S Drew Bowman has racked up an AMCC-best of 888 total assists, averaging 8.22 assists per set
With a 10-2 conference record, Penn State Behrend enters the tournament as the #2 seed. Sophomore RS Jack Wilcox leads the Lions on offense with 247 kills, ranking third in the conference with 3.13 kills per set and fourth with a .280 hitting percentage. Senior MH Joseph Sciscio leads the AMCC with 1.27 blocks per set and is second with a .420 hitting percentage. Senior MH Lewis Rhodes sits second in the conference with 1.02 blocks per set and senior DS/S Luke Mumpower ranks second with 7.95 blocks per set.
#3 Houghton comes into the tournament with a 7-5 record in conference play. Junior OH Devin Cline leads the Highlanders with 256 total kills, averaging 2.59 kills per set, while also ranking T-4th in the league with 0.38 service aces per set. Senior MB Jared Wright ranks third in the AMCC with 0.92 blocks per set and junior S Jerry Buno is third with 6.35 assists per set.
Rounding out the championship field is #4 Penn State Altoona, also with a 7-5 record in AMCC play. Sophomore OPP Caleb Fries has 270 total kills on the year, ranking fourth in the AMCC with 3.03 kills per set. Sophomore L Adam Chan is second in the conference with 218 digs and 2.45 digs per set, while sophomore OH Jack McKenna has 209 kills with 2.32 kills per set.
