March is Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Awareness Month, and the
Pitt-Bradford softball team stepped up to the
plate to assist.
The softball team raised nearly $800 for the Brain Injury
Association of Pennsylvania by selling over 30 t-shirts in the
Commons. The Lady Panthers also collected donations on campus and
at all home games.
A TBI is defined as a blow, jolt or bump to the head or a
penetrating head injury that disrupts the normal function of the
brain. Currently, 2.4 million people, including 475,000
children, sustain a TBI in the United States each year. 5.3 million
individuals live with a life-long disability as a result of TBI.
The disease is a contributing factor to a third of all
injury-related deaths in the U.S.
“We appreciate all those who have supported us with this
fundraiser,” said head coach Tina Phillips. “We will
only make this bigger and better in years to come. We know what a
terrible disease this is to live with and how prone athletes are to
this.”
