AMCC SOFTBALL GAME OF THE WEEK: D'YOUVILLE AT PENN ST. ALTOONA

The AMCC softball game of the week features a showdown of the current top two teams in the conference. Penn State Altoona (15-5, 6-0) is sitting at 6-0 in the conference, while D'Youville College (9-6, 5-0) is right behind them with a 5-0 conference mark.
The D’Youville softball team has started their conference schedule off going 4-0 following their Spring Training stint in Clermont, FL which saw the women go 4-6. In their four conference games thus far, the team is yet to score under six runs. They have combined for 44 runs in those four games and given up a total of 10, showing their abilities on both sides of the ball. Seven of the 10 players who have started at least 13 games for D’Youville have hit a home run. Five of those players have 10 or more RBI and three of those 10 also have scored 10-plus runs. The offense has junior utility player Hannah Turek, who leads the team in RBI (15), batting average (.412) and hits (21) while is second in doubles (5) and third in runs (10). She is third in the AMCC in RBI and fifth in batting average as well. The team’s seniors have also gone on a tear with infielder Lauren DeVantier hitting .692 in her last four games and is second in runs (11) and third in batting average (.380) while infielder Mackenzie Kehlenbeck leads the team and AMCC in home runs (3) and is second on the team in RBI (14) and outfielder Lydia Monin is fourth in batting average (.340) and tied for third in RBI (10). Senior pitcher Kalie McHeny has also been outstanding in her last four games. She has won all four and gone complete games in each, allowing a total of seven earned runs. McHenry is first in the AMCC in strikeouts (88) while she is in second in ERA (1.89) and wins (8). McHenry has also gotten the job done at the plate as she is second on the team in batting average (.390) and is tied for third in RBI (10).
Penn State Altoona softball comes into Saturday’s big AMCC doubleheader against D’Youville College riding an eight-game winning streak. The Lady Lions have been led by strong pitching from junior Kate Burge, who leads the conference in earned run average (1.47), wins (12), complete games (13), shutouts (4), and innings pitched (104.2). The right-hander is coming off of a perfect game against Franciscan University, Burge’s second career perfect game pitched. Meanwhile, senior catcher Clarissa Keller has been a force at the plate. She leads the AMCC in batting average (.500), hits (28), and runs scored (18), and she has also been perfect in the field. Collectively, the Lady Lions have been playing good team defense with an AMCC-best .965 fielding percentage.
