Medaille College @ La Roche College
Saturday, April 1 at 1:00/3:00 p.m.
The beginning of April also marks the beginning of AMCC softball conference play, as league teams began facing off against each other on Wednesday. Medaille College (11-7, 2-0 AMCC) will travel to Pittsburgh, PA to take on La Roche College (9-9, 0-2) in the season's first AMCC Game of the Week.
The Medaille Mavericks softball team has been playing well at the start of the season, opening 11-7 overall, which includes wins in 10 of their last 13. They have been getting contributions from all over the diamond including from junior outfielder Sharon Trigilio and sophomore infielder Mercedes Sulzbach who have both already been named AMCC Players of the Week at least once this young season. This is the second of three straight conference double headers, as they swept Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday and are set to take on the Spartans of D’Youville on Wednesday, April 4.
The Redhawks entered Wednesday's double-header against Franciscan University 9-7 overall, but dropped both games to even their record at 9-9 and start off 0-2 in conference play. La Roche is led offensively by senior infielder Kara Sainato who ranks fifth in the conference with a .405 batting average, and is tied for fourth, with teammate Andie Lippman, with five stolen bases. Freshman infielder Kelsey Plato sits second in the conference with 15 RBI. The Redhawks will be looking to bounce back from their sweep by the Barons to even out their conference record after the first week of AMCC play.
