The AMCC Softball Game of the Week features two teams who appear to be in the midst of breakout seasons. Neither team made the conference postseason tournament in 2016, with Medaille College (13-9, 4-0) finishing in seventh place with an even 9-9 conference mark, and Franciscan University (7-9, 3-1) finishing the season without a single mark in the win column. Entering the mid-week games, the Mavs are a perfect 4-0 in the AMCC and the Barons are 3-1.
The Medaille Mavericks softball team started AMCC play 4-0 for the first time in over six years with wins over Pitt-Bradford and La Roche College. Junior outfielder Sharon Trigilio ranks second in the AMCC batting .481 with an AMCC-best 14 stolen bases and 22 runs scored. In the circle, freshman Laura Kratzke has been just as impressive. She was just named AMCC pitcher of the week after giving up just two runs last week. She has currently thrown 13 straight scoreless innings, ranks second in the conference with a 1.54 ERA, is third with seven wins, and ranks fourth with 54 strikeouts.
The Franciscan Barons feel as though they have a lot to prove this year after finishing the 2016 season without a single win. They already racked up seven wins and sit in third place in the conference with a 3-1 record. Senior P/3B Jordan Cunningham leads the Barons, and is third in the conference, with a .429 batting average, while freshman first baseman Ashley Kondracki is second in the AMCC with 17 RBI.
