EAST NAMED D3 HERO OF THE WEEK
Pitt-Bradford sophomore Madison East has won the national vote and is this week's HEROSports.com's D3 HERO of the Week, officials announced Friday.
East was made a finalist for the award Monday and fans were able to vote once per hour per device through 2 p.m. EST Friday.
The award is the third national honor for the Milton, Pa., native, as she was named both the Fastpitch News and Louisville Slugger NFCA Player of the Week for Division III.
Although Pitt-Bradford only got its two games against Alfred State in last week due to weather, East made the most of her seven plate appearances.
The sophomore reached base all seven of her plate appearances the team's home-opening doubleheader. Included in her 5-for-5 day was a triple and a double.
She had three RBIs in each game for six total and delivered the big hit in game two — a bases-clearing, bases-loaded double.
She also stole three total bases and scored as many runs.
With perfect batting averages and on-base percentages, she also posted a 1.600 slugging percentage.
