AMCC SOFTBALL GAME OF THE WEEK: MEDAILLE @ PENN ST. ALTOONA
As the month of March winds down, softball season heats up as we move into conferece play on Wednesday this week. The first AMCC softball game of the week of the 2018 season features the Mavericks of Medaille College as they travel to Penn State Altoona on Saturday afternoon for a double-header. Medaille enters the game with a 7-5 record, while Altoona sits at 9-7.

The first AMCC softball game of the week of the 2018 season features the Mavericks of Medaille College as they travel to Penn State Altoona on Saturday afternoon for a double-header. Medaille enters the game with a 7-5 record, while Altoona sits at 9-7.
Medaille senior outfielder Sharon Trigilio picked up where she left off last season as the Mavs recently traveled south for spring break. Trigilio hit .523 with seven extra base hits and nine RBI. Junior Mercedes Sulzbach has gotten off to a strong start as well, hitting .450 and knocking in 10 runs. Sophomore pitcher Laura Kratzke has been a rock on the mound, pacing the AMCC with six wins and 60 strikeouts with a 2.80 ERA.
In the early part of the season, the Lady Lions have leaned on strong defense and effective pitching. Penn State Altoona ranks first in the AMCC in fielding percentage (.958) and double plays turned (8). Sophomore pitcher Sidney Shultz and freshman pitcher Emily Strouse have gotten off to good starts this year, as Shultz has a 2.03 ERA and Strouse has a 2.61 ERA. Penn State Altoona's offense has been led by junior shortstop Haley Giedroc, who is second in the AMCC in hits (22) and total bases (30) and third in stolen bases (10), and freshman infielder Meghan Marasti, who is first in the AMCC in doubles (6), fifth in total bases (23), and seventh in hits (17).
