MOUNT ALOYSIUS SITS ATOP AMCC SOFTBALL PRESEASON RANKINGS

After the 2020 softball season was canceled in early March a year ago, AMCC softball players and coaches are eager to hit the field in the coming weeks. Mount Aloysius College, who claimed back-to-back conference titles in 2018 and 2019, are the expected frontrunners once again. AMCC coaches look for Penn State Behrend to finish in the second spot, with Pitt-Bradford to come in third.
Mount Aloysius junior 1B/C Lydia DeFazio has been named the AMCC Preseason Player of the Year. DeFazio was the 2019 AMCC Player of the Year after leading the conference in batting average (.586) and home runs (7). She got on base two out of every three times and slugged over 1.000. DeFazio hit seven homeruns and drove in 25 in conference play. She finished her overall season with .479 average, nine homeruns, 44 RBIs, and a .557 OBP, all tops in the AMCC.
Pitt-Bradford SR Jordan Uhing is the AMCC Preseason Pitcher of the Year. In 2019, Uhing won 14 games for the Panthers, which was the third-best tally in the conference. She also finished second in the AMCC in ERA, posting a 2.23 over 135 innings pitched. In conference play, she won seven games with a 3.00 ERA, while also adding a save. Before last season came to an early end, Uhing posted a 2.97 ERA over 33 innings pitched.
The AMCC tournament will kick off on Sunday, May 9 with first round games. The semifinals will take place on Wednesday, May 12, with the conference championship on Saturday, May 15. All games throughout the tournament will be played at the site of the higher seeds. The AMCC champion will earn the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
