Mount Aloysius College travels to Erie, PA on Saturday to take on the Penn State Behrend Lions in the AMCC Softball Games of the Week. Penn State Behrend (9-11, 4-0 AMCC) and Mount Aloysius (9-7, 3-1 AMCC) hold down the top two spots in conference standings heading into weekend play.
Mount Aloysius has started strong with a 3-1 conference record and is currently the only AMCC with an overall winning record, sitting at 9-1 overall. They are led by sophomore OF Ella Pearson, who is ranked in the top five in all of the triple crown categories. She has hit .453 on the season, while driving in 17 runs and hitting a league-leading five home runs. Pearson also ranks fifth in total hits, second in runs scored and first in triples. The Mounties have also been steadied by freshman P Sierra Walters who has thrown two complete games in conference play, earning two of the three Mountie wins. In her last outing against Penn State Altoona, she allowed just one run and struck out nine batters, earning the win in a 2-1 contest. The Mounties will look to continue their strong stretch, having won four of their last five games.
The Behrend Lions split a non-conference doubleheader with Hiram on Thursday, as they registered a 1-0 win in game one, before falling 4-3 in the nightcap. Behrend is the only undefeated team in conference play with a 4-0 record, scoring 56 runs and only allowing three in those four contests. Sophomore 3B Jocelyn McNany and freshman P Abby Tingley were named AMCC Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, on Monday for last week's performances. McNany went 9-for-10 (.900), scoring seven runs and driving in six, while tallying three doubles and one triple, along with one stolen base in four games. Tingley threw two complete game victories for a 0.70 ERA with one shutout, as she went 2-0 on the week. Tingley pitched 10 innings and struck out six with allowing just one earned run in two appearances. Senior C/INF Cami McNany enters the weekend four hits away from 100.
Behrend holds a 34-8 record against Mt. Aloysius dating back to 2003, with the Lions winning 16 of the last 19 meetings vs. the Mounties.
