The AMCC women's basketball game of the week features the top two teams in the conference, with first place La Roche College (19-3, 14-1) traveling to Bradford, PA to take on the Panthers of Pitt-Bradford (15-7, 11-4). The Lady Redhawks come into the contest fresh off a win that clinched home court in the AMCC Tournament and their sixth straight AMCC Regular Season Championship. This is the second time this season the Panthers and Redhawks will meet with LaRoche edging the Panthers 79-74 back on Jan. 16.
La Roche’s starting lineup consists entirely of juniors with three ranking in the league’s top five scorers. AMCC Preseason Player of the Year, junior guard Sabrina McLin, is an elite talent and holds the conference lead in points while ranking sixth nationally in the same category (21.9 ppg). She in first in the conference in field goals, three pointers, and ranks second in steals and fifth in assists. Junior forward TiChina Mitchell has been a force inside this season, ranking fourth in the AMCC and fifteenth nationally in scoring (19.8 ppg). So far she has produced ten double-doubles and is averaging of 8.7 rebounds per game. Junior forward Mackenzie O’Donnell has been equally as effective inside, scoring 15.1 points per game while blocking 45 shots and pulling down 7.4 rebounds per contest. Junior guard/forward Danasha Harris is one of the best defensive players in the country. She has twice been named the AMCC Defensive Player of the Year and has been ranked in the top 10 nationally in steals per game all three of her seasons. In addition to her prowess on the defensive end, she also ranks third in the conference in both field goal percentage and assists. Junior guard Gloria Schifino provides veteran leadership at the point position ranking second in the AMCC in assist to turnover ratio and shooting 37% from beyond the arc. La Roche currently leads the AMCC (ninth nationally) in scoring offense and ranks second in scoring defense.
The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women’s basketball team is looking to get back on track, following a 77-75 heartbreaking loss on a last-second three pointer at D’Youville. The Panthers have lost back-to-back games for the first time since falling to Pitt-Greensburg and then Fredonia earlier this season. Sophomore guard Ali Rinfrette has been dominant all season, leading the Panther offense with 20.5 points per game (second in the AMCC) and 7.6 rebounds per game. Junior Guard Kaserra Owens has missed the last two games with an injury, but has been strong all season, posting 11.5 points per game while senior guard Abby Brate rounds out the Panthers averaging in double figures with 11 points per game and a team-high 5.4 assists per game. Junior forward Brittany Watts has also been impressive as of late, averaging nearly 10 points per game while dominating the glass as well. Pitt-Bradford is currently second in the league in scoring, averaging 78.1 points per game while giving up just 65.2 points per game which is also second in the conference behind LaRoche who is giving up just 58.6 points per game and scoring 78.1 points per game.
