LA ROCHE'S MITCHELL NAMED NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

La Roche junior forward TiChina Mitchell has been named the U.S Basketball Writer's Association (USBWA) Division III women's basketball National Player of the Week. Mitchell was selected from a field of over 400 NCAA Division III teams.

Mitchell, a 5-8 junior forward from Woodbridge, Va., averaged 31.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 steals per game while shooting 65.8 percent (25-of-38) from the field and 92.3 percent (12-of-13) from both three-point range and the foul line as the Redhawks went 2-0. On Wednesday, she scored 22 points (8-of-15 FG; 6-of-7 FT), while totaling four rebounds, four steals and a block in an 88-61 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) victory over Mt. Aloysius (4-4, 3-1) in a battle for first place. Mitchell followed that up with a school-record 40-point performance (17-of-23 FG; 6-of-6 FT) while adding seven rebounds, four steals and two assists in a 102-50 win over D'Youville (3-6, 0-3). Mitchell currently leads the AMCC and is second in NCAA Division III in scoring (23.9 ppg) for 6-2, 4-0 La Roche.

Mitchell is the second La Roche athlete to win the prestigious award. Former baseball second baseman Colin Feikles received the honor in 2014.
