McCULLY, SANDERS NAMED CO-PLAYERS OF THE YEAR AS ALL-CONFERENCE IS RELEASED
Pitt-Greensburg senior guard Sidney McCully and La Roche University senior guard Danajah Sanders have been named AMCC Women's Basketball Co-Players of the Year.
Pitt-Greensburg senior guard Sidney McCully and La Roche University senior guard Danajah Sanders have been named AMCC Women's Basketball Co-Players of the Year.
In addition to Co-Player of the Year, McCully also picked up Defensive Player of the Year honors. She ranked second in the conference in overall scoring this season after avereraging 18.5 points per game, while her 18.1 points per game in conference play was tops in the league. She was first in the AMCC with 3.1 steals per game, her 17 blocks on the season were second-best in the conference, and she ranked sixth in the conference with 7.9 rebounds per game. She recorded season-highs of 31 points, 17 rebounds, 10 assists, eight steals, and five blocks in various games throughout the season. McCully was a four-time AMCC Player of the Week.
Sanders has been the leading force for the Redhawks all season long, as she led La Roche to their fourth consecutive regular season title and third straight AMCC Championship. Her 16.9 points per game in conference play were fourth-best in the league, while she also ranked second in steals (37) and fourth in assists (46). The senior shot 35.6% from three point range and 45.4% from the floor.
Penn State Behrend freshman guard Madilyn Boyer is the AMCC Newcomer of the Year. She finished second on the team and sixth in the AMCC in scoring at 15.9 points per game. She was first in AMCC field-goal percentage with 52.7 percent and first in three-point percentage with 40.4 percent. She ranked ninth in rebounds per game (7.0) and seventh in steals (49). Boyer recorded five double-doubles on the season, scoring a season-best 24 points at La Roche.
Coach of the Year honors goes to La Roche head coach Kam Gissendanner. Gissendanner earns the honor for the fourth time in her career after leading the Redhawks to their 11th regular season title in the past 12 seasons, and their 10th conference championship in that same timespan. The La Roche women completed a perfect 14-0 regular seaoson, while currently sitting at 20-7 overall.
