AMCC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL GAME OF THE WEEK: ALFRED STATE @ LA ROCHE

The Alfred State College Pioneers will be traveling to Pittsburgh, PA on Saturday afternoon to take on the La Roche University Redhawks in the first AMCC Women's Basketball Game of the Week this season. Both the Pioneers and the Redhawks enter the game with 1-0 records in conference play.
The Pioneers will be looking to showcase their well-rounded team play this weekend as they travel to La Roche. The young ASC team is coming off a win against Hilbert, 62-59. Sophomore Taylor Benjamin leads the way as she averages 10.9 points per game. Behind her are four freshmen that stepped up and are averaging over six points per game. One of those freshmen is Sarah Somers who had a breakout game last night with an 18-point 10 rebound double-double. Another one is Anna Merry who is shooting 50 percent on the season from behind the arch and is averaging 6.0 points per game.
La Roche kicked off AMCC play on Wednesday night with a 75-54 victory over Mount Aloysius College. It goes down as the 13th consecutive victory for the Redhawks to kick off AMCC play, having won their conference tip-off matchup every year since the 2010-11 season. Junior forward Makayla Abram highlighted the night with 23 points and 11 rebounds, entering Saturday’s matchup against Alfred State as the team’s leading scorer, averaging 14.2 per contest. Graduate student Machia Hairston comes into Saturday averaging a double-double with 13.7 points and 10.2 rebounds, while sophomore guard Jazmine Dunn is scoring 12.5 per game to along with six assists per game.
