The AMCC Women's Basketball Game of the Week features the 9-4 Carlow University Celtics at 8-5 Mount Aloysius College. The Celtics are currently third place in conference standings, while the Mounties are in fourth.
Carlow University women’s basketball is riding a four-game winning streak heading into Saturday’s AMCC contest at Mount Aloysius College. The Celtics are coming off a 65-56 win over Penn State Altoona at home Feb. 13. Senior G Sydney Carr – a three-time AMCC Player of the Week this season – leads the team and is ranked third in the conference with an average 15.9 points per game (16.9 in AMCC games) and leads the league with a 44.9 three-point shooting percentage. Carr ranks second in the conference with an average 3.8 assists per game and is third with 2.9 steals per game. Graduate F Nina Cano is averaging 12.3 points and is ranked second in the AMCC with an average 10.1 rebounds per game (10.5 RPG in AMCC action), and Emiley Hillgartner rounds out the offensive with an average 10.6 points per game on the season. Junior G/F Emari Stinnette returned for the Penn State Altoona game after an eight-game hiatus due to an injury. She recorded her first double-double of the season in the win and will help the Celtics in the paint and on the boards. The Celtics lead the conference beyond the arc with a 31.8 three-point percentage. Carlow also ranks first in the conference averaging 43.3 rebounds per game and is fourth with 64.8 points per game.
The Mounties enter Saturday's match up with an 8-5 AMCC record this season and a 13-9 overall record. Led by sophomore F Molly Kosmack, the Mounties have won five of their last seven games, with Kosmack sitting atop the AMCC leaderboards for rebounds per game (10.6) and field goal percentage (57.1). The Mountie offense is bolstered by strong shooting from sophomore G Annalyn Isaacs, whose 40% three point shooting is good for the fourth best in the conference, while making the 2nd most in the AMCC (44). The Mounties' recent success has come behind the strong two-way play of sophomore G Angelina Kohlwaies, who was named the USBWA National Player of the Week earlier this season, as well as earning DIIIHoops.com Team of the Week honors. Kohlwaises currently averages 10.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.3 steals per game this season. The Mounties look to move up to third in the AMCC with a win over the Celtics.
