NJCU GOTHIC KNIGHTS TAKE FIRST PLACE AFTER DAY ONE OF ROUND ROBIN
The New Jersey City University women's bowling team enjoyed its most successful day in years, thanks in part to sophomore Autumn Fortunato and freshman Kayla Chance finishing first and second, respectively in the individual standings as the Gothic Knights finished first overall after the first day of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Round Robin #1, hosted by NJCU on November 12 at Hudson Bayonne Lanes.

Coming into the weekend just 6-19 on the season, the Gothic Knights (9-20, 4-1 AMCC) bounced back with wins over Penn State-Altoona (787-734), Medaille College (801-730) and a 161-pin outcome against Pitt-Bradford (814-653), falling only to defending AMCC champion Mount Aloysius College in the second match of the day, 802-794. All four matches were bowled under the five-person traditional team game format.
NJCU trailed Mount Aloysius by 20 pins heading into the final match of the day, but the Gothic Knights were victorius over the Mounties in the final game to finish first overall with total pinfall of 4,006—a 24-pin advantage. Mount Aloysius was second (3,982) with Medaille a distant third (3,812). Pitt-Bradford (3,599) and Penn State-Altoona (3,452) were fourth and fifth.
Fortunato finished first overall in the individual standings in a field of 32 bowlers. She had a five-game pinfall of 977 (195.40 average). She was 105 pins better than her teammate Chance, who was second with 872 (174.4 average). Mount Aloysius sophomore Jessica Bello rounded out the top three with a an 821 (164.2). There were three 200 games bowled among the 125 total thrown on the day and Fortunato, the NJCU anchor, tossed two of them—a 212 against PS-Altoona and a 205 in the bye fifth game. Penn St. Altoona sophomore Nicole Watt recorded a 219 in the Lady Lions' first game of the day.
Day two of the AMCC Round Robin #1 is Sunday, November 13. The matches, which will be played in the Baker format, will begin at 9:00 a.m.
