BEARCATS SEASON ENDS IN NCAA TOURNAMENT
The Saint Vincent College women's bowling team concluded its 2024-25 season with a 2-0 loss to Marian University in the first round of the NCAA National Tournament.
The Saint Vincent College women's bowling team concluded its 2024-25 season with a 2-0 loss to Marian University in the first round of the NCAA National Tournament.
The opening round started with a Traditional match, and SVC fell behind early, trailing by 30 pins after just three frames. The Sabres pulled away to a 100-pin lead after six frames, before the Bearcats started to make a comeback. However, Marian went on to win by a 61-pin margin, 901-840. Abby Justice led SVC with a 215 game.
Up next was a five-game Baker team set, with SVC needing to outscore Marian in total pins in order to keep the season alive. SVC led early in game one before splits gave Marian a chance to come back and win the opening game by 25 pins. In game two, the Sabres threw nine strikes en route to a 256 game. However, the Bearcats came back late in the game. Kaylie Kurland struck in the 7th frame to start the rally, which was followed by strikes from Mareana Pilyih and Skyy Nicholls. Daphne Stuber then added two strikes in the 10th to give SVC a 214, which put the Bearcats down by 67 pins after two games.
In game three, the Bearcats again threw well, with Stuber closing the game with a pair of 10th frame strikes to lift SVC to a 212-171 win. SVC also captured game four, 173-158, cutting the gap to just 11 pins with one game to go. However, the Bearcat comeback ended there, with Marian bouncing back to capture game five, 208-176, to win the match 965-922 and record the 2-0 win.
The Bearcats finish the season with a record of 49-18.
