SAINT VINCENT GOES UNDEFEATED AT FIRST AMCC ROUND ROBIN
The Saint Vincent College women's bowling team swept all seven matches in the first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament of the season, held in Waterloo, New York.
The Saint Vincent College women's bowling team swept all seven matches in the first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament of the season, held in Waterloo, New York. The Bearcats were strong throughout the weekend, averaging 183.3 and leading all teams in total pins by more than 370. With a 7-0 record, the Bearcats currently sit in first place in conference standings.
The format for the weekend was seven sets of five-game Baker team blocks, with total pins deciding the winner of each match.
SVC set the tone early against rival Alvernia University, shooting a 245 game to take an 85-pin lead after just one game. The Bearcats added a pair of 194 games in the third and fourth games, pulling away to a 101-pin victory, 962-861. The team followed with a 928-737 win against Hilbert College, ending with a 207 game. The final match of the weekend saw the Bearcats defeat La Roche University, 886-682. Skyy Nicholls led the Bearcats on the weekend with an average of 19.44
William Smith College, Pitt-Bradford and Penn State Behrend all finished 5-2 on the weekend. Per AMCC tiebreak criteria, if win/loss records are tied, ties in the standings are broken as follows:
a. head-to-head results of tied teams vs. each other
b. head-to-head total pin fall of all matches the tied teams played vs. each other
William Smith dropped a tight five-pin loss to Saint Vincent on Saturday. The Herons' high score on day one was 918 against Alvernia. The defending AMCC champions picked up a 2-1 record on Sunday, dropping a 838-801 decision to Pitt-Bradford. They made up that deficit with 895 pins in a win over Pitt-Greensburg, their high score on day two.
Pitt-Bradford also picked up one loss on each day over the weekend to finish with the 5-2 record. Bradford's sole loss on day one also came to Saint Vincent, while their 855 in a win over La Roche gave them their highest pin total on Saturday. The Panthers rolled an 838 for their high score on Sunday, dropping their only match on the second day to Penn State Behrend.
Behrend went 3-1 on the first day, also falling to Saint Vincent. The team-high Baker score on Saturday came against Alvernia in the first game, rolling an 846. After the first day, the Lions sat in a three-way tie in the team standings with a total pinfall of 3,202. On Sunday, Behrend picked up two more victories with the only stumble coming against the hosts, William Smith. The Lions recorded a team-high Baker score of 793 vs. Pitt-Greensburg on the second day.
The team records from this weekend will carry over to the AMCC Round Robin No. 2 Feb. 8-9 in Greensburg, PA. The top six teams in the final standings will qualify for the AMCC Championship in Pittsburgh, March 21-23.
