AMCC WOMEN'S BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIP: DAY ONE RECAP
After day one of the AMCC Bowling Championship, #1 Saint Vincent College and #2 William Smith College remain undefeated heading into day two of competition tomorrow morning at Pines Plaza Lanes in Pittsburgh, PA. #3 Alvernia University and #5 Hilbert College each picked up wins in first round competition Friday morning, but both dropped their afternoon matches, as the Golden Wolves and Hawks each enter day two with one loss each.
Match 1: #3 Alvernia d. #6 Pitt-Bradford
Alvernia got their day started by defeating Pitt-Bradford in Match #1 on Friday morning. The Golden Wolves earned an 880-734 victory in traditional play before picking up the 843-762 win in Baker play. Kaitlyn Knopp led Alvernia with a 200 in the traditional format, while Kailynn Jones recorded a 190. Pitt-Bradford was led by Erin Wales' 181. In Baker play, Pitt-Bradford took game one by a tight score of 147-142 before Alvernia came back with a commanding 194-154 win in game two. Alvernia took games three and four with scores of 188-176 and 171-148, respectively, before the Golden Wolves closed out game five 148-137.
Match 2: #5 Hilbert d. #4 Penn State Behrend
For the second year in a row, #5 Hilbert earned the upset victory over #4 Penn State Behrend in the first round of the AMCC championship tournament. The Hawks started out with a 905-830 victory in the traditional format before picking up the 911-820 win in Baker play. Brooklyn Hannah led the Hawks with a game high of 253, while Jenna Angle recorded a 191. Lillie Holt rolled a 203 for Penn State Behrend. In the Baker 5 Game TPF Series, the Lions took game one with a 170-161 victory. Hilbert came storming back with a 221-152 victory in game two before recording a 207-190 in game three. The Hawks closed it out with two more victories -- a 167-157 win in game four and a 155-151 victory in game five.
Match 3: #2 William Smith d. #3 Alvernia
Second seeded William Smith defeated #3 Alvernia 967-780 on Friday afternoon. Colleen Jump led the Herons with a game-high 247, while Natalie Yale registered a 193. Lacey Slaymaker topped the Golden Wolves with a 200. William Smith continued their hot play in the Baker format, defeating Alvernia 864-824 to take the mega match sweep. Alvernia took game of the five game Baker series 186-175. William Smith bounced back with a 199-144 win in game two, before the Golden Wolves took game three 150-142. William Smith once again rallied to take game four 169-153, as Alvernia took game five 191-179. However, the Herons were able to hang on for the total pinfall win.
Match 4: #1 Saint Vincent d. #5 Hilbert
Top seeded Saint Vincent earned the 2-0 mega match sweep over #5 Hilbert to advance to Saturday with an undefeated record. The Bearcats started out by winning traditional play 947-896 over the Hawks. Lilly Houle led the green and gold with a game high 238, while Kaylie Kurland recorded a 193. Saint Vincent then took a convincing 912-790 win in the Baker five game series. The Bearcats took game one by the score of 166-156 before Hilbert bounced back and took game two 175- 159. Saint Vincent then went on a hot streak, taking the next three games (202-150, 210-159, 175-150) to close out the series.
Saturday morning will kick off at 9:30 a.m. with #1 Saint Vincent and #2 William Smith battling it out in the winners bracket, while #3 Alvernia and #5 Hilbert will square off in the elimination match.
