The Alfred State College Athletic Department proudly announces Steve Peed as the new women's lacrosse head coach. Peed will become the program's second head coach after their inaugural season in 2025.
Peed will be joining the Alfred State coaching staff after spending the past six seasons on the sidelines of Maine Maritime, a program he created as the Athletic Director in 2014. He served as the head coach for four of his six seasons and as an assistant in 2023 and 2025. Peed's first full season as the Mariners head coach was the 2022 campaign, where he recruited two North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Rookies of the Year, produced the Academy's first NAC Player of the Year in Women's Lacrosse, first IWLCA Senior All-Star, eight All-NAC First Team selections, five All-NAC Second Team selections, two NAC Senior Scholar Athletes of the Year, 29 NAC All-Academic selections, four IWLCA Academic Honor Roll selections and four CSC Academic Honor Roll selections. His 2024 team established program records for goals (230), assists (122) and points (352). The 2025 Mariners set program records for single-season wins, NAC victories, home record (7-1) and road record (5-1), while shattering the previous goals-against average benchmark of 9.57, set in 2017, with 7.00 GAA.
Prior to his work on the sideline, Peed joined the Maine Maritime staff in 2011 as the Assistant AD for Communications and Compliance. He then took over as the Director of Athletics in August 2012, serving in that capacity through December 2024.
