PIONEERS WIN INAUGURAL AMCC WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP
The Alfred State College wrestling team competed on Sunday at the AMCC championships, becoming the first-ever wrestling team champions of the AMCC.
The Alfred State College wrestling team competed on Sunday at the AMCC championships, becoming the first-ever wrestling team champions of the AMCC. The Pioneers dominated from beginning to end, as they scored 136 team points, over two times the amount of second place Pitt-Bradford, which finished with 66.5 points. Hiram College finished in third with 56 points, while Penn State Behrend rounded out the field with 40 points.
The Pioneers won eight individual weight classes, as the only two weights the Pioneers didn't win were 165 and the heavyweight division.
Mason Drew, ASC (125): won his championship with a pinfall in 5:39.
Zachary Levey, ASC (133): Took the win in a medical forfeit to crown Levey champion.
Sean Peterson, ASC (141): Won by pinfall in 2:49 over a Hiram College opponent.
Dom Vinci, ASC (149): defeated Pioneer teammate in a 7-4 decision win.
Anthony Miraglia, ASC (157): Took a victory by medical forfeit.
DJ Slovick, UPB (165): defeated Hiram opponent by technical fall, 17-1.
Johnny Layfield, ASC (174): Layfield defeated Pioneer teammate by pinfall in the championship bout.
Sean Malenfant, ASC (184): Won in a first round pinfall against a rival Penn.- St. Behrend wrestler.
Blake Ilges, ASC (197): Won by a 5-1 decision against Nathan Powley from Pitt.- Bradford.
Cameron Carter-Green, UPB (HWT): defeated Hiram opponent in a 10-3 decision win.
The Pioneers head to the Mideast Regional Championships on February 25.
